Apparition - This is the manifestation of a ghost/spirit in any visible form, whether with the naked eye or through the use of technology such as photographs or video.

Cold spot - Usually centered in a specific area where the air temperature is noticeably lower than the surrounding air. The paranormal belief is that inexplicable cold spots (not a draft, air from an air-conditioning vent or some other observable cause) are indicators of ghosts because the entity will take energy straight out of the air (heat) to acknowledge its presence.

Clairvoyance – The ability of clear mental perceptions and deep insights about people and life situations. Clear visual mental images, pictures, the "seeing" of auras and other psychic phenomena are also described.

Demonology - One who studies the art of demonology. This individual specializes in the removal of “evil” or “demonic” forces from environments. A demonologist is said to bring demonic forces out of their slumber to be cast away.

Dowsing - To be able to find underground water and/or underground minerals.

EMF – Electromagnetic Field – EMF is a naturally occurring physical field produced by electrically charged objects. It affects the behavior of charged objects in the vicinity of the field. Over exposure to EMF can cause uneasiness, paranoia and sickness.  It is believed that this is a natural energy field a ghost/spirit can manipulate.  High spikes of anomalous, unexplained EMF is quite regular in the paranormal investigation field.

ESP - Extrasensory perception. Involves awareness of information about events external to the self not gained through the senses and not deducible from previous experience

EVP - Electronic voice phenomena. The capturing of an unexplained, anomalous voice on audio recording equipment. These voices, which don't belong to anyone human, turn up on tape or digital audio recorders upon review of data. EVPs have numerous different classes, from Class A, crystal clear audio, to Class G, garbage.

Haunting – An unexplained, anomalous presence attached to a specific location or person. Hauntings can be "intelligent" or "residual".

Intelligent Haunting – anomalous activity within an area where the ‘spirit’ is aware of everything that is happening and is capable of interacting and reacting.

Materialization – The appearance or manifestation of a “ghost”.

Orb – Spherical photographic or video anomaly. Some believe true orbs are extremely rare, but are the manifestation of a spirit's energy. People often mistake moisture, lighting issues, flying bugs for orbs.

Paranormal – Not scientifically explained or pertaining to the claimed occurrence of an event or perception without scientific explanation. Supernatural phenomena.

Parapsychology - Literally beyond psychology. A field of study concerned with the investigation of evidence for paranormal psychological phenomena including new means of communication, or interaction, between organisms and their environment (telepathy, clairvoyance, or psychic ability), beyond those presently understood by the scientific community.

Poltergeist – German for "noisy spirit." Poltergeists are believed to be mischievous or angry, noisy, able to move things around and are usually attached to a specific person, often a child or adolescent. Poltergeist phenomena are usually considered to be related either to unusual physical conditions at the affected site, or to be related to psychokinesis. Anecdotal reports suggest that many poltergeist occurrences focus on an individual under some form of emotional stress.

Psychic - Popular term used to denote a person who regularly uses, or who appears to be especially gifted with, psi abilities. One who is sensitive to nonphysical or supernatural forces and influences: marked by extraordinary or mysterious sensitivity, perception, or understanding.

Residual Haunting – Anomalous activity within an area where the ‘spirit’ seems unaware of other spirits and humans. It is believed that residual hauntings could be like tape recording of energy which replays over and over at specific times or dates.
